Ron Seifert is a climate activist from Montana who has been working intimately with land owners along the proposed Keystone XL pipeline route. Last fall Ron accompanied activist Tom Weis on a 2,150-mile “rocket trike” tour from Canada to the Texas Gulf Coast in opposition to TransCanada’s proposed Keystone XL tar sands pipeline. The months spent on the road gathering information and building relationships with the families and grassroots organizations that have been fighting TransCanada since 2008 gives Ron a unique understanding of the complete history of the Keystone XL story, and access to the latest news from the front lines.
Ron also works with environmental justice organizations in the Texas Gulf region to address the disproportionate consequences of the petrochemical industry. Tar sands from the Keystone XL pipeline will be an additional burden for the vulnerable segments of our society living along the fence lines of Texas refineries. Overall, Ron believes that the southern segment of the Keystone XL pipeline not only risks the health and security of Oklahomans and Texans, it also effectively lights the fuse to one of the biggest carbon bombs on planet Earth.
